1974
The Great Migra8tion
412 pages
I had to read this chapter twice to fully absorb it, and i'm not sure i've fully absorbed it.
But this is The Jay Z origins chapter.

New York City
Cumberland Hospital 1969
Introduces Diane. She's in a bad situation.
In pain, she asks "How the f--k did i get here"
Like how did it all come down to this?

Brooklyn 1949
The question, is not just a dramatic quote, and not just a segway into the next section, but also an historical rhetorical question of the history of black people.
Diane asks her mother about their roots.
Diane's mother answers as her mother told her:
"we lost all our history and heritage in the holds of the slave ships that brought them over from Africa"
Then she explains their US ancestry and Mr Davies.
it out on their own and needed a little help. Thanks Makavelli.
Now, if you could, please explain the definition of Ballin to us white folks.

The next part explains who Diane's father was/is

New York State - White Plains - Late 1930s
Florence and Aaron are a forbidden couple who only get to see each other when Mr Davies goes out of town on business.
They get together in the barn, Mr Davies comes in pissed off, they wind up killing him, Aaron runs away for his life, and Diane Smarter (Jay Z's mom) is conceived.
Florence was outcasted after this happened. She takes up with a truck driver named BJ. They eventually break up.

Brooklyn
Diane meets Martin and they get married.
Martin is away on duty a lot and Diane becomes a desperate housewife. She starts smoking weed with Anthony.
Martin comes home and confronts Diane about her affairs and confesses he also met someone in Hawaii that is more in his league.
They get divorced. Martin keeps the kids.
Diane leaves and hooks up with Anthony and then moves back home to Brooklyn with her mom and siblings.
Anthony then moves to Brooklyn and they get their own place.
Diane takes up cocaine after weed no longer cures her needs.
Diane gets pregnant.
After the 7th month, Anthony leaves.
Diane sniffs more coke, and gives birth to a four pounds, her mom gets custody, and diane goes to rehab.

Louisiana - New Orleans - Mardi Gras '69
Pamela and Diane are hanging out at Mardi Gras.
Pamela has friends in secret societies.
In the mention of Secret Societies is my last name "Lippe" and my initials J.L. Within one sentence of each other
I was kinda spooked seeing that.
J.L. is a black man who is affiliated with the Secret Societies and arranges sexual encounters. Tonight he has to arrange one with Luna and Lord Ophiuchus and isn't pleased because he likes Luna.
Diane goes to see a fortune teller.
A strange elaborate sex scene like out of Eyes Wide Shut ensues involving J.L. Luna and The Lord and others.
After the fortune teller, Diane meets J.L. and they have sex.

New York City - Cumberland Hospital 1969
Back to where the chapter began. Diane gives birth to a healthy 10 pound boy. There is tissue covering his left eye, which was a prophecy from the Gypsy.

New York City 1974
It's Seth's 5th birthday, and he wants a bike, but there isn't enough money for a bike, so he asks for a Mr Microphone.
Seth is Jay Z.
The whole chapter was the lineage of how Jay Z came to be and finishes off at the end where enter Jay Z at 5 years of age in 1974. His wikipedia bio shows he was born in 1969, and so the math on this is accurate and correct.
